(THIS INFORMATION IS IN REFERENCE TO THE FATHER OF THE SUBJECT OF THIS MEMORIAL SITE, NOT EDWARD II.)
In 1872, Edward Emmett Rankin and Edna Broiles Rankin were encouraged to move to Arlington by Dr. Willie Stokely Broiles, her father. Eventually Mr. Rankin joined Mr. Randall in the operation of a hardware store located in the 100 block of East Main. Mr. Rankin continued the operation of the store until the mid-depression when bankruptcy caused its closure.
E. E. Rankin (Sr.) served as mayor of Arlington for a very short time in 1885. His descendents include Edward II (subject of this Memorial Site), grandson Edward III and great-grandson, Edward IV.
