Russell was born Sept.22, 1926 at home in Comfort Township, Kanabec County, Minn. to G.G. and Olive (Erickson) Anderson. He grew up on the family farm, attended the Bryant School through eighth grade and then attended Grasston High School, graduating in 1944. Russell farmed with his father after graduation. He attended Quamba Baptist Church with his family while growing up, and was baptized at Grasston Baptist Church as a teenager. Russell and Charlene lived for 53 years on a farm in Comfort Township less than a mile from the house in which he had been born. Early in their marriage, Russell continued to farm with his father and also worked at the Grasston Creamery making butter and emptying milk cans. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and treasured his Savior, wife, children and grandchildren. Russell was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease in 2000. His health declined in the next years. He was a resident at Cedar Crest, an assisted living facility in Hutchinson, for several months in 2003 and 2004.
