On February 17, 1963, Robert was a passenger in a car traveling on Highway 59 in Buchanan County. The driver of the car was traveling at a high speed when he lost control about one mile north of Halls, Missouri. The car veered to the left shoulder of the highway and went airborne at the north end of a bridge that spanned a creek. Robert was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri where he died. The driver of the car survived.
Robert is survived by his parents, his brother John Francis Baker, and two sisters, Ruth Imogene Griffin and Rose M. Large.
