Services for Lawrence M. Poat, 79 of Derwent, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Meek Funeral Home with Evang. Abe Miller officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Poat died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday (July 23, 1978) at Guernsey Memorial hospital following a long illness. Born Aug. 9, 1898 in Paducah, Ky., he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Poat. He was a retired electrician and a member of Stop 9 Church of Christ, Byesville. On July 1, 1929, he married the former Wilma Shear, whom he leaves along with one sister, Mrs. Orene Walston of Paducah, Ky., and several nieces and nephews. One sister is deceased.
