Carolina Elżbieta Iwanowska was a Polish noblewoman, the daughter of Peter Ivanovski and his wife, Pauline Leonharda Podoska. She was married at Woronince on April 26, 1836 to Nikolaus, Prinz zu Sayn-Wittgenstein, with whom she had a daughter, Marie. They divorced in 1855. She is best known for her forty year relationship with composer Franz Liszt. It is speculated that she did much of the actual writing of several of Liszt's publications, especially his Life of Chopin. She maintained correspondence with Liszt and encouraged Hector Berlioz, as shown in their extensive correspondence. Berlioz dedicated Les Troyens to the Princess.
