Funeral services for George S. Smith, retired farmer of the Elmer community, will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the First Methodist Church, Altus. Rev. Cecil Cox will officate. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery under direction Merriott-Roland Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith died at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, in his home at 904 East Nona. He was born Sept. 18, 1878, in Neler, Mich., and moved to Jackson County in 1904. He was married on December 11, 1902 to Sophia Chastain in Vernon, Tex. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Elmer and of the Elmer Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of the home, two sons: W.C. of Crowell, Texas and Carl of Altus, and five daughters: Mrs. Fred Mabrey, Summertown, Ariz., Mrs. Ernest Mabry, Altus, Mrs. A.J. Tomlinson, Duluth, Kan., Mrs. D.C. Simmons, Pasadena, Tex., and Mrs. Truman Bennett, Lawton, 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Note: The great-grandchild is Karl Kueteman, son of Karen Mabry Kueteman.
