Lillian M. Haynes, formerly of Olpe and Cherryvale, died Monday, April 23, 2007, at the Holiday Resort where she was a resident. She was 95. Mrs. Haynes worked at the Cherryvale Grain Co. for 21 years before she moved to Olpe in 1983. The daughter of Benjamin and Birdie Hendrix-Boss, she was born Feb. 12, 1912, at Gas City. She grew up in Cherryvale, where she attended school. She married Dennis E. Haynes on Dec. 19, 1928, at Oswego. He died Aug. 18, 1965, at Cherryvale. Mrs. Haynes was a member of the Olpe United Methodist Church. She was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and held dual memberships in Miriam Chapter 14, O.E.S., and Eva Chapter 18 in Independence. She is survived by one son, Jim Haynes of Olpe; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. Her stepfather and a brother, Virgil C. Myers, died earlier.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The Rev. Lucille Barb of the Olpe United Methodist Church will conduct the funeral. The graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Fairview Cemetery at Cherryvale. Memorial contributions to the church may be sent to the funeral home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, KS 66801.
