Michael Carrigan immigrated to the United States from Ireland probably on or before 1862. He married Mary Joyce, another immigrant from Ireland, in about 1862. It is not known if they married in Ireland and therefore immigrated together or if they immigrated separately and then met and married in the U.S.
I would appear that they lived in the Burkeshire, Massachusetts area for a time as their oldest daughter, Mary E., was born there in February 1863. They then must have immediately headed west to Missouri since their second child, Richard M., was born in December of 1863. Two more children, Alice Jane and Michael T. were also born in Missouri. They then moved to the Doniphan, Kansas area in 1871 where the rest of the children were born. Their names are: William H., John, Thomas, Catherine M., Agnes L., Frank, Charlie Placidus and James Francis.
