"Cab driver found slain in vehicle"

"A Gulfport cab driver was found stabbed to death in his vehicle late Monday night. Gulfport Police Chief Craig M. Monroe Jr. identified the victim as Acey T. Welch Jr., 25, of 2900 40th Ave. Monroe said Welch had been stabbed once in the chest. The body was removed to Lang Funeral Home. Monroe said police received a call about 10:50 p.m. from residents of 22rd Avenue, who called in to report an accident. Monroe noted that the taxi cab had rolled from the street into a yard at 2319 33rd Avenue. He said residents found the body. The chief said that Welch apparently had been seized from the rear and stabbed. Some money was found on the body. Monroe said the Yellow Cab radio microphone was still in the victim's hand. Dets. Larry Haley and Don Everett are leading the investigation Tuesday morning. Monroe said police as of yet have no suspects in the case. Monroe said the subject being sought would possibly have a lot of blood on his clothing. He asked that anyone seeing someone fitting this description after 10:30 p.m. Monday contact the Gulfport Police Department."
