Ruth Clark Braxton, 88, of Amarillo died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Pioneer Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St., with the Rev. Jason Craft of Messiah's House officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean.

Mrs. Braxton was born Jan. 27, 1921, in Coalgate, Okla., and moved to Amarillo from Shamrock in 1953. She lived in Amarillo until moving to Loveland, Colo., in 1983. She returned to Amarillo in 2000.

Ruth loved her family and family activities. She was especially close to her sister, Mary Lou Simpson, and her twin brother, Rufus Ray Clark. She also loved gardening, sewing and painting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A.B. Braxton, in 1995; a grandson, Petty Officer 3rd Class Terry Joe Campbell; her parents, Edwin and Ola Bell Clark; two brothers, Randall and Rufus Ray Clark; a sister, Mary Lou Simpson; a half-sister; and four half-brothers.

Survivors include a son, Melvin Don Braxton and wife Jan of Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters, Barbara A. Griffith and husband Gary of Loveland and Kay Morgan and husband Loyd of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.

The family suggests memorials be to American Heart Association, 2514 82nd St., Suite B, Lubbock, TX 79423; or American Cancer Society, 3915 S. Bell St., Amarillo, TX 79109.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
