Donald J. Weber Sr., 71, and Mary Ann (Berens) Weber, 66, entered heaven together Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident south of Dubuque.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded for Don by the Dubuque Marine Corps League. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at the church, where there will be a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Don was born on April 9, 1937, in Chadron, Neb., son of Herman and Leona Weber. He graduated from Saint Paul Catholic School in Worthington, Iowa, in 1956. After graduation, he joined the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1960.

Mary Ann (Berens) Weber was born on June 11, 1942, daughter of Eugene and Marcella Berens. She was part of the first graduating class of Wahlert High School in 1960 and was actively involved in the reunion committee.

Don and Mary Ann were married on Nov. 22, 1962, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dubuque. Together they raised six children in Dubuque.

Don retired from John Deere in Dubuque in 1992 after 31 years and was a proud member of the United Auto Workers. In his retirement years, he volunteered every Thursday at the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, played cards every Wednesday afternoon at the Eagles Club and also volunteered at Holy Ghost Bingo. Don was a proud and determined Cubs and Bears fan.

Mary Ann retired from Dubuque Community Schools in 2006, after working many years at Central Alternative High School and George Washington Middle School. Lastly, she was working as a substitute at Marshall Elementary School. Throughout the years, Mary Ann volunteered at the United Way, Project Concern and the Foster Care Review Board. She was an instructor with the Batterer's Education Program and Child in the Middle Classes.

In recent years, Don and Mary Ann enjoyed traveling in Europe and around the United States. More than anything, their greatest joy was spending time with their eight grandchildren. They never missed a football, baseball, softball or basketball game, gymnastics meet or the many plays and concerts in which their grandchildren participated. Many hours were spent in the rocking chair rocking their grandchildren and watching the wildlife in their backyard. No words can express how missed they will be by their grandchildren.

They are survived by their six children, Joe (Karen) Weber, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jeff Weber, of Wichita, Kan., Jane (Brian) Sunseri, of Omaha, Neb., and Janet (Kirt) Patters, Joan (Tim) Schueller and Julie (Junior) Davis, all of Dubuque; their grandchildren, Taliesin Weber, Kole Patters, Rebecca and Catherine Schueller, Sydney and Nora Davis and Johnathan and Grace Sunseri; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He is survived by his brothers, Ben (Betty) Weber and Richard (Barb) Weber; and his sisters, Bernie Weber, Clara Tobin and Margaret (Merlin) Heinz.

She is survived by her brother, Eugene (Barb) Berens, of Chicago; a sister, Barb Berens, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Ernest Raab, of Iowa City; and an uncle, William Saville, of Bellevue, Iowa.

They were preceded in death by Don's brothers, Wilfred (Harriet) Weber, Clarence Weber, Vincent Weber, Jerry (Mida) Weber; their brothers-in-law, Hank Hess and Dick Tobin; their nephew, Benji Weber; and their parents.
