Carl Friedrick Wilhelm Buss was born in Messow, Pommern, the son of Christian Friedrich and Maria Elisabeth (Buss) Buss. They married in Pommern and they had one son, Carl/Charles, born there in 1849. They arrived in New York on the ship, the Hudson, on 19 May 1854.
Over the years, one sister Charlotta Henriette Buss Lierman and two of Wilhelm's brothers Johann Gottfried Buss and August Friedrich Michael Buss, also emigrated and the families remained very close.
They made their home in Lebonon where three daughters were born. The children were:
1. Charles Friedrich August, b. 19 Sep 1849, Messow, Pommern; d. 12 Oct 1908. He married Henrietta Koehler 27 Sep 1877 in Lebonon, Dodge, WI,
2. Ernestine Wilhelmina b. 05 Dec 1856, WI. She married Otto August Bartz 14 Dec 1882 in Lebonon, Dodge, WI. He was born Nov 1858 in Germany.
3. Bertha Caroline Wilhelmina b. 02 Mar 1859, Lebonon, Dodge, WI. She married Friedrich Herman Kuhlke 23 May 1878 in Lebonon, Dodge, WI
4. Fredericka Louisa Wilhelmina b. 16 Aug 1862, Lebonon, Dodge, WI; d. 12 Aug 1942, Watertown, Jefferson, WI. She married Matthias Remmel 29 Oct 1885 in Lebonon, Dodge, WI
