Mr. Eric "Rick" Howard, "Kailey's Papa," age 61, of Fernandina Beach passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at his residence. Born on July 25, 1946 in Jacksonville, FL, he was a 1964 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, where he was an Allstate athlete in football and track.
Mr. Howard had served in the United States Marine Corps, from which he retired in 1985 as an E-9, Master Gunnery Sergeant, after 22 years of active duty. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Con ict. After retirement, he enjoyed his love of golf, playing regularly at NAS Jacksonville. For the past few years, Mr. Howard had assisted his son in operating Dick's Wings and Grill in Yulee.
He leaves behind, his son, Eric Lamont Howard II and his wife, Jan, Callahan; his daughter, Natonya Renee Howard, Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Kailey Renee Howard, Michael Swearingin, Amy Swearingen and Alisha Swearingen; brothers, Ronald "Ronnie" Hope, Jacksonville, and Wiliam "Billy" Pardue, Miami; his former wife, Anna Marie Howard, Jacksonville; and two nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 7, 2008, in the Burgess Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Barney of Oceanway Assembly of God, officiating. Full Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps Honors Detail. Mr. Howard will be laid to rest at a later date. Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors served the family. Burial at Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, Duval County, FL.
