Mary Ann Wacaser was born 7 Mar. 1846 in Murray County Georgia. Her parents (John and Nancy Wacaser) moved to Pike Co., Illinois about 1848 and Mary Ann grew up there. It was there in Illinois she met a very tall, slender man with very black hair and gray eyes, Jacob Anderson Brunk. In 1862, one year after he had enlisted in the Union Army when he was near home briefly after the beginning of the Civil War, she met him at Bird's Point, Mo. They were married by the Army Chaplain, Rev. Richard Haney, and the marriage took place on the train as he was on his way back to the war.
She was the mother of 10 children:
