Per September, 1909 Hammond Times Newspaper (or the Lake County Times) BOY HURT BY AUTO MAY DIE - JOHN BEITLER OF HAMMOND VICTIM OF DEPLORABLE ACCIDENT WHEN CAUGHT UNDER HUTTON CAR- AUTO OCCUPIED BY YOUNG MEN.

That was the headline in the newspaper. John attempted to "hitch" on to the running board, slipped and fell under the wheel of the car. The car ran over his shoulder and head. He was in the hospital for several days before he finally succumbed to his injuries. His mother was Valeria Groat-Horner. She was married to John's father, Jacob Beitler. They divorced and later she married Frank Horner and had one daughter, Zara.

Gravesite Details

There never was a headstone placed for him. Per current management burial sections have changed and John's grave was an unattended to grave for approx. 40 years. His plot was resold back in the early 1950s. I'd like to put a cross recognizing him.
