Leslie A. Cook, 83, of Jackson died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.


He was born Oct. 13, 1925, in Whitewater, son of Emory Dallas and Amelia Blumenberg Cook. He and Ruby Quade were married Jan. 11, 1947, in Gordonville.


Cook served in the Army during World War II from May 12, 1945, to Dec. 3, 1946, in the European Theatre. He was a guard and assistant warden at the Nuremberg Trials. Cook served in Germany the whole time in service. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 158 in Jackson. Cook farmed his whole life near Whitewater. He was a member of Whitewater United Methodist Church.


Survivors include his wife, Ruby Cook of Jackson; three sons, Terry Cook and wife Annette of New Orleans, Ronald Cook and wife Sandra, Keith Cook and wife Teresa, all of Whitewater; a daughter, Shirley and husband Paul Bond of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Ruby Stroder of Whitewater; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.


Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.


Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Don L. Kuehle and chaplain Terry Cook officiating.


Burial will be at Zion United Methodist Cemetery in Gordonville with full military honors conducted by Missouri Honor Guard.


Memorials may be made to Whitewater United Methodist Church.
