Her parents were J. Ernst Meier (1801 - about 1850) and Elnora Rennencamp (1801-1864). Christina was confirmed in the German Lutheran Church in about 1847. She immigrated to the U.S. via the port in New Orleans in 1856 with her mother and siblings.

Christina and Carsten Ehlers were married 25 January 1857 in Adams County, Illinois.

Their children were: Hannah M., Ernest August, Mary Elinor, Henry, Louisa Christine, Richard W. and C. Willihelm (William).
