Dennis L. Adkins, 80 years old, of Pie WV began his new life with Christ as he was promoted February 2, 2009 for a job well done.

Dennis served his country proudly with the U. S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Randolph. He was an accomplished gardner and wood craftsman. He was a member of Little Dove Freewill Baptist Church, Below WV, and was a retired coal miner.

He will be always remembered as a humble man, with integrity, compassion and love. He was a devote Christian and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

A devoted husband of over 51 years to Dorothy (Hatfield) Adkins. He was a loving Dad to three children, Kenny and Trenz Adkins of Low Gap, WV Cathy & Rick Simpkins of Louisa, Ky, and Chris and Cindy Adkins of Six Mile, WV. Dennis was very proud of his seven grandchildren, Tracy, Jeremy, Deidre, Amanda, Brandon, Kierstin and Hunter. He was also blessed with seven great grandchildren and sisters Estaline Adkins, Ruth Lepley and Della Scott.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV with Tommy Ellis and Danny Gilfilen officiating. Burial will follow in Muncy Valley Cemetery, Pie, WV with military graveside rites. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
