James Paul Wiley, 74, Frederick, Md., passed away with his family by his side Friday at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Wanda Jane Burdette Wiley, his wife of 35 years. He was born in Altoona, son of the late James B. and Anna M. Weamer Wiley. Surviving in addition to his wife are five children: Ronnie Fouche of Frederick and friend, Karen Ventrell, of Chevy Chase and Eddie Fouche and wife, Holly, Cathy Wiley Roberson and husband, Bruce, Michael Wiley and Jennifer Sines and husband, John, all of Frederick, Md.; eight grandchildren: Heather Fouche, Kimberly Fouche and fiance, Mike Tipton, Rachel Fouche, Issac Fouche, Matthew Stotler, Rebecca Roberson, Natalie Sines and Belle Sines; four great-grandchildren: Isaiah Fouche, Carmella Dorsey, Bianca Thews and Christian Stotler; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jim also will be remembered by his special friends: Doug and Nora Barnes and Tracy and Arturo Zamora, all of Hagerstown, Md. He was preceded in death by five sisters: Gertrude Fox, Martha Koch, Julia Martin, Catherine Brady and Marion Steinbeiser; and three brothers: Joseph, Robert and Richard. Jim was a graduate of Altoona Catholic School. He was an electronic maintenance supervisor at Fort Detrick, retiring in 1991 after 37 years of service. He stayed active working at a number of places, including Stauffer Funeral Home, Carpel Video, Visitation Academy and Kennedy's Service Center. Mr. Wiley served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of F.S.K. American Legion, Post 11, and the Frederick Elks Club. Jim enjoyed bowling and making trips to Las Vegas and Charles Town, and was the family ''handyman.'' Most of all, he was known as ''Uncle Jim'' and ''Pop Pop'' to family and friends. He loved spending time with his friends and family, baby-sitting his grandchildren and cooking large family meals, especially at holiday time. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Md., where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, the Rev. Joseph C. Burdette officiating. Interment will take place in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick, Md., with Issac Fouche, Matthew Stotler, Mike Tipton, Mark Wayne Watson II, Jarrett Droneburg, Doug Barnes and Timothy Peake serving as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
