William was a farmer who originally enlisted in Co. G, 37th Indiana Infantry. He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer on Jan. 10, 1864. On Jan. 1, 1865, Liming transferred to Co. I, 88th Indiana Infantry 1865. He transferred again on June 7, 1865 during army consolidation moves at the close of the war to Co. I, 38th Indiana Infantry. He mustered out on July 15, 1865.

Liming married Miss Mary Elizabeth Miller (1841-1932) on Sept. 21, 1865 in Brookville, Franklin Co., IN. Together they had the following children:
