At an early age, Art was baptized near Hardy and later confirmed his Lutheran faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hardy. At the time of his death, he was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, rural Superior.
He grew up at Hardy where he attended school and graduated from the Hardy High School with the Class of 1935.
Art enlisted with the Merchant Marines where he served for approximately 10 1/2 years. He was assigned to the Civilian Conservation Corp. at Ft. Laramie, Wyoming.
On November 22, 1951, Art was united in marriage to Mildred Grummert at Clay Center. To this union one daughter was born.
Art and his family have lived in Hardy, moving to Edgar where they lived for two years, back to Hardy and then making their home in Superior.
He was a former charter member of the Eagles Club and a member of the Elks Club both of Superior and the Danish Brotherhood of Ruskin.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred; daughter, Janice, both of Superior; one sister, Mrs. C.E. (Bertha) Harris of Covina, California; one brother, Helmer of Superior.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior with Pastor David Miller officiating. Pallbearers were Omar Miller, Willard Springer, Delphos Shellhase, Gordon McKee, Vic Pedersen, Doyle Darling. "In The Garden" and "Beyond The Sunset" were sung by soloist, Carol Shambaugh, with Carlita Price as organist. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Superior. The Megrue-Price Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
