Bernice Barfknecht, daughter of Louis Hoins and Lucetta McClurg Hoins was born March 28, 1900 at Nora, Nebraska.
She died September 9, 1971 in Nuckolls County hospital at the age of 71 years, five months and 12 days.
In early childhood she moved with her parents to a farm near Bostwick and attended rural school. She attended Nelson Business college and Peru State Teachers college. She was a rural school teacher for four years.
On May 18, 1921 she was united in marriage to William Barfknecht. Four children were born to this union. The Barfknech's (sic) farmed near Bostwick and Nelson retiring in Superior in 1959.
She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was a faithful community worker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Kenneth, one sister and four brothers.
She is survived by three children, Mrs. Elmer Meyer (Lorene) of Superior, Everett Barfknecht of Nelson and Mrs. Don Iburg (Norma) of Omaha, 13 grandchildren, three granddaughters, two brothers, Dan Hoins of Guide Rock and Cliff Hoins of Davenport, and two sisters, Mrs. Fern Laird of Superior and Mrs.. Loren Bailey (Amy) of Guide Rock, and many other relatives and friends.
Services were held Saturday, September 11, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church Rev. Donald T. Stewart, officiating.
Pallbearers were Wayne Tumbleson, Robert Hoins, Myron Wilcox, Kary Hoins, Carl Hartman and Ralph Hoins.
Interment was in Evergeen (sic) Cemetery, Superior, Nebraska.
