Mary Novalene Phillips, 78, of Denton died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton.

She was born Sept. 19, 1928, in Oran Texas to Edgar Higgins and Lillie (Leatherwood) Sampley.

On May 15, 1947, she married Edgar Elmer Phillips in Jack County. She owned and operated the Krum Cafe for many years and then worked in the kitchen at Texas Woman's University before moving on to the University of North Texas.

She was a member of Gateway United Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8 at Gateway United Baptist Church, 2401 N. Bell Ave. in Denton. The Rev. Buddy Owens will officiate. Burial will follow in Crafton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7 at Mulkey Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust St. in Denton. Survivors include three sons, Eddie Phillips of Queensland, Australia, Larry Phillips of Denton and James Phillips of Aubrey, one brother, Harlon Sampley of Sanger; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Eudean Leavelle and Letha Mullennix .

*This is my mother, her parents are buried in Cottonwood Cemetery in Jack County along with her sister Letha Mullenix. Her other sister, Eudean Leavelle is buried in Hope Cemetery in Henrietta. Her brother, Raymond Harlon Sampley is buried in Bolivar Cemetery in Denton County.

Mary Novalene Phillips, 78, of Denton died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton.
