Clayton Dwight Osman was the first born child of his parents Arthur Franklin Osman and Mary Estella Fritz.

He married Helen May Cable on January 23, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. They had three children: Beverly, Sally, and Clayton, Jr.
