(In the early 1800's Edward Henderson and his wife, Miss Byrd died of Bubonic Plague.) At age 14 their son Edward Nickolas was put into a boarding school - probably in or near New Castle on Thyne, England.

Not appreciating the boarding school life, he went to live with a wealthy uncle and made several trips to North America on his uncles ships which were bringing coal from New Castle to Canada. Finially he was told he had one more trip to Canada before he had to return to school. He made the trip, but jumped ship and took a boat up the St. Laurence River to Fredrickton, New Brunswick. He worked at many odd jobs and always saved his money. He became ships cook and eventually earned enough money cooking on a woodboat to buy his own boat. At last he docked the boat and, from his savings bought a ranch and began raising sheep in Maine.

He was married to Catherine B Hammond. All of his children were born in Maine.
