Heinrich Fredrich Amend was born in Lincoln, Neb., to Henry and Anna Geiss Amend, who immigrated to Lincoln from Saratov, Russia, in 1893. In 1908 the family came by railroad to Keeline where they lived on a homestead. He attended the Prairie View rural school. In 1927, he operated one of the first rotary wooden rigs in the Lance Creek Oil field.
He married Gladys Sims at Douglas, May 31,1930. He drilled wells in several fields in Wyoming until 1941 when he bought the Harry Card ranch one mile south of Lost Springs, later his parents homestead was added to his ranch. He resided here until his illness.
Ranching was his joy in life. He was an ardent fan of the Niobrara Roping Club, was a member of the Lusk Masonic Lodge and the American Sunday School Union at Lost Springs.
