Christine Shelton, 84, of Victoria, passed away April 6, 2008. She was born to Alva Monroe Files and Mary Costa Bowerman Files, in Ada, Okla., on June 12, 1923, where she was raised and completed high school. She went to work building trainer aircraft in WWII for student pilots, at Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa. Her first priorities have always been God and family. After raising her children Chris established a home business. Also, she and her husband Clay operated Shelton Trucking Company in Victoria.

Throughout her life, Chris developed many lasting friendships. She was a gifted encourager, showing kindness to everyone. Chris was a devoted wife to her husband for 40 years, Clay Shelton, and a loving mother, step-mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a founding member of Glascow Church of Christ, which she attended for over 50 years. She loved flowers, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, being with her grandchildren, and transforming her yard into a thing of beauty. During her later years Chris lived with her loving sister Bethena, and the two of them traveled extensively together. For the past two years she had embraced Texan Nursing and Rehab as her home, expressing gratitude for the excellent care she received there. Her legacy of caring will be cherished and greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Christine is survived by her loving daughters, Debbie (Robert) Kasper of Schroeder, Carolyn (Joe) Holub of Victoria, Sue (Joseph) Topping of Frisco, and Deloris (Dick) Moore of Houston; sister, Beth Bradley of Houston; brother, Elmer Sanders of Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren, Alethea (Robert) Albrecht, Amanda (Mike) Griffin, April Kasper, Julie (Doug) Murphy, Joseph (Kate) Topping, Lisa (Alexander) Lyster, Kenneth (Kendra) Holub, Jennifer (Mark) Garner, Mike (Lori) Holub, and Susan Holub; 13 great-grandchildren, Michael Holub II, Luke Holub, Landon Holub, Rio Garner, Megan Albrecht, Carson Albrecht, Ellie Albrecht, Hannah Griffin, Kailyn Murphy, Braden Murphy, Clay Topping, and Caleb Topping.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Shelton; twin infant daughters; son, Clarence F. Maas III; sister, Joyce Coleman; brothers, Velmer Sanders, A.M. Files, Jr., Willie Files, and Glen Files; grandchildren, Chantel and Patrick Kasper; and great-grandson, Travis Holub.

The family will receive friends from 5-6:30 p.m. today at Grace Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Mid-Town Church of Christ with Mr. Derrell Starling officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
