This stone was donated by Charles Davis in 2004, I believe the birth date on the stone is incorrect. John's older brother Thomas's tombstone states Thomas was born Aug. 1, 1805. I also have for their father John Carter, from Parke Co., Indiana Bloomfield-Bloomingdale page 205 from loose papers at the Arcola Library that state John Newlin was born March 17, 1819, buried Sept 29, 1912, age 93 years 6 months at Bloomingdale cemetery.
The 1850 Census has John listed age 30 making him born closer to 1819.
1870 Census he is age 50 also closer to 1819.
1900 Census list him age 91, birth March 1819.
Therefore I am more incline to believe that John Newlin was born March 17, 1819 but I am interested in hearing from anyone on this.

Son of John and Ruth (Newlin) Carter. He married Mary Rayl, Oct. 8, 1854 in Parke Co., Indiana.

They had 6 children that I know of,
1. Sarah E. born 1856 in Parke Co., Indiana
2. Ruth Ellen, born Nov. 17, 1857
3. Mary E. born 1861
4. Thomas E. born 1864
5. Martha Jane, born Jan. 1867
6. William O. born March 1870

John Newlin Carter, son of John and Ruth Newlin Carter, was born near Hillsboro, Orange Co., North Carolina, March 17 1819; died at his home in Bloomingdale, Parke Co., Indiana, Sept 27 1912, age 93 years 6 months 10 days. He came with his father to Parke Co., Indiana in 1830. Oct 1854 he was married to Mary Rayle, with whom he lived until death claimed her, Feb 3, 1910. For more than 4 score years, Uncle John was familiar with the affairs of this community. As a boy he frequently made long journeys on horseback to some grist mill for meal or flour. For years he was a teamster and hauled produce to Cincinnati, Evansville & Richmond & brought back merchandise to the villiages in this section. He also made two trips to New Orleans on flat boats, loaded with grain, pork & other produce. He had many other interesting reminiscences to relate of pioneer life. Taken from the Historical Sketch of Parke Co., Indiana Atlas In Centennial, 1816-1916, pg 123, from the Arcola Library, Douglas Co., Illinois.
