A native of Inman, S.C., he was a son of the late Joseph C. Bishop Sr. and Margaret Ford Bishop.
Funeral services for Mr. Bishop will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Belmont with the Rev. Robert Baker officiating.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont.
Burial with Military Honors will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Joseph was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy Seabees.
He retired from Eastern Air Lines in 1987 after 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Daphene Mitchum Bishop; sons, Michael J. Bishop of Charlotte, Kelly L. Bishop of Gastonia; daughter, Carol B. Sellers and husband Larry of Duluth, Ga. and one grandson, Bailey Bishop. Other survivors include brothers, Walter E. Bishop of Sunbury, Ohio and George L. Bishop of Lincoln, Calif.; one sister, Betty Bramlett of Greer, S.C. and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles M. Bishop.
