She was the middle child of Charles & Judith Lewis; along with brothers Tommy & Colin the family lived in Butleigh Terrace, Dukestown, Tredegar - located in the Sirhowy mining valley of South Wales.
During one heavy winter snowfall while returning home from school, Judy, then 6 yrs old, was knocked down & dragged some distance by a car. Passing Colliers returning home saw the accident and helped to carry her home through the drifting snow. She eventually recovered from the severe head wound.
In 1937,following the deaths of her beloved Father & brother Colin the family later moved to Newport, Mon.
