George Wentworth Dies Wednesday

He Was Former U. S. Commissioner

George P. Wentworth Jr., former U. S. Commissioner and prominent realtor in Pensacola died Wednesday night at a local hospital. He was 45.

He resigned as U. S. Commissioner last Nov. 1, a position he had held since May 20, 1946. He was first appointed commissioner by the late Judge A. V. Long and had been reappointed for two four- year terms.

Wentworth was a native Pensacolian and had lived here all his life except for five years spent in the U. S. Army. He was a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve.

He was a graduate of the University of Florida Law School, where he was a member of Theta Chi social and Phi Delta legal fraternities. He was a member of the Florida Bar Association.

Wentworth held the offices of president of the Realty Corp. of Pensacola and Real Estate Securities Co.; vice president of Fisher Rental Agency; secretary and director of Muldon Motor Co., Security Finance Co., and Friendly Service.

He was an active member of Knights of Columbus, Pensacola Country Club, Pensacola Exchange Club, Society of Bar, First Judicial Circuit and Florida Bar.

Mr. Wentworth resided at 1415 E. BIount St. with his wife and son. He belonged to Sacred Heart Parish.

Survivors include his widow, Jesse Stocksdale Wentworth; one son, George Wentworth III; one sister, Mrs. Adelaid Waldron; and a step-mother, Mrs. George P. Wentworth Sr., all of Pensacola.

Funeral services will be announced by Waters & Hibbert Funeral Home.

Society's interest today centers in the announcement of the marriage of Miss Jessie Graham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse L. Stocksdale of New Albany, Ind., to Capt. George Parker Wentworth, Jr., AUS, of Fort Knox, Ky., son of Mr. and Mrs. George F. Wentworth. The ceremony took place Sept. 20 in Holy Trinity church in New Albany.

Captain and Mrs. Wentworth are spending a short time in Nashville. Tenn., and will arrive in Pensacola Monday to be the guests of his parents at 821 North Barcelona street.

Spending Christmas in Louisville, Ky., Jessie Wentworth (Mrs. George Jr.) is visiting her brother and sister-in-law, the W. A. Stocksdales, and her niece and nephew, the Gene K. Smiths. George Wentworth III, student at Spring Hill College, will join the family in Louisville and later fly to Tulsa, Okla., to be guest of Mrs. Peter McMahon and her daughter Mary McMahon
