Joseph E. Parmley, 62, well known farmer of the Town of Venice, ended his life by hanging himself in the barn at his home sometime between 11 o'clock and 12:45 o'clock Sunday morning. He had been in a highly nervous state for sometime past and had brooded over his inability to get at his farm work due to the cold weather and steady rains.

Mr. Parmley left the house about 11 o'clock in the morning to tend to some chores at the barn. When he did not return at 12:45 for dinner his wife became alarmed and his brother-in-law, Fred Grey, who was visiting at the Parmley home, went to the barn to see what was delaying Parmley. Grey was surprised to find the barn doors wired shut. He gained entrance through a rear window. He found Parmley hanging in the barn loft.

Sheriff Willard Wilcox and Coroner Dr. Frank L. DeFurio were notified and they motored to the Parmley home. Coroner DeFurio, after an investigation, pronounced the case suicide and released the body to the Wade undertaking establishment in Moravia.

Mr. Parmley was born in England and came to this country with his parents when he was seven years old. He had resided in Venice 42 years.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the home. Rev. Irving Cash, pastor of the Genoa Federated Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Genoa Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Minnie Grey Parmley; a sister, Mary Parmley, and three nieces.
