Laura was appointed as the second ad interim Clerk of the Circuit Court of Pinellas County upon the death of her husband. She served in the office for three weeks until Governor Fred P. Cone appointed Ray Green to fill out the rest of her husband's term. Mrs. McQuagge went on to serve as president of the Upper Pinellas Women's Democratic Club and president of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in Clearwater.
