Seattle, Washington. Agnes Cecilia Richard, 89, passed away at 7:00 a.m. November 5, 2004, at Providence Mount Saint Vincent in West Seattle, WA.
Agnes was born in Argos, IN, on May 14, 1915, to Lloyd D. Finney and Barbara C. (Leffert) Finney. She was an orphan at the age of eleven and was raised by her grandfather, John Leffert. On November 29, 1934, she married J. Arthur Richard in St. Michael Church in Plymouth, IN, and lived and worked on their farm there. The family moved to Lafayette, IN, in 1956 and farmed there until their retirement in 1969. In retirement they lived in Florida and Tennessee and traveled extensively until Arthur's death on July 23, 1985. Agnes continued to travel throughout the United States visiting family and friends while living in Naples, FL. Her last four years were spent in Seattle, WA, in the care of Providence Mt. St. Vincent assisted living center.
She is survived by seven children: one daughter, Barbara and husband Fran Sigman of Silverdale, WA; six sons, Roland and wife Marge of Dayton, IN; Glenn and wife Vicki of Charleston, IL; Arnold and wife Rosemary of Kokomo, IN; Roy and wife Kathy of Cincinnati, OH; Ralph and wife Sandi of Ft. Myers, FL; and Robert Richard of Peru, IN. There are 21 grandchildren: Mrs. Dean (Bonnie) Hufford, Brian Richard, Jerry Richard, Mrs. Roger (Nancy) Verhey, Steven Richard, Michael Richard, Mrs. Sean (Susan) Weiss, Rose Ann Sigman, Mrs. Ken (Julie) Dirks, John Sigman, Mrs. Brian (Donna) May, Mrs. Brad (Shiela) Barnett, Eric Richard, Paul Richard, Mrs. Keith (Amy) Sexton, Adam Richard, Mrs. Brad (Karin Richard) Conway, Kevin Richard, Jake Slayton, Taryn Richard, and Evan Richard. Agnes also has 20 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, two sisters, Peggy Schmeltz-Duwelius and Bernice Duff-Meek-Priser, a brother, Francis Finney, and a half-brother, Ambrose Sissel, preceded her in death.
There will be a service Monday morning, November 8, 2004, in the chapel at Providence Mt. St. Vincent, 4831 35th Ave. SW, Seattle, WA. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 10, 2004, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN 46563. A rosary service will be held at around 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 11, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Plymouth, IN, followed by burial in the New Oak Hill cemetery in Plymouth. Van Gilder Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to; Gateway Workshop Center, Division of Bona Vista Industries, 105 South Benton, Peru, IN 46970, or REM Group Homes, 1200 Kittyhawk Ave, Suite 201, Peru, IN 46970, Provident Mt. St. Vincent or the charity of your choice.
