Born near Monmouth, NJ into a family of ten children, of whom 2 survived. He was the seventh child born to William and Eliza Malsbary. In 1862 he married Martha Mahan. Five years later and with three small sons they came to Rantoul, Il. They became owners of a fine farm. He is one of the early pioneers of Rantoul, Il. They resided in Rantoul until October, when he and his invalid wife moved in with their son George at Darlington. He passed away in June of the following year. "His was a simple belief - that example is greater and more effective than precept-and in all his life he was free from the use of tobacco and liquor and was singularly clean in speech." "He was always jealous of his business integrity; a man of his word and one who never betrayed a trust, happy in his home, in the likes of his family and friends."
