GALVESTON — Ernest W. Gonzales, Sr., 68, of Galveston received his reward to be with his Lord and Savior, Tuesday, February 23, 2009, at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center in Webster, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Galveston, with Father Niall Nolan, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston under the direction of Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, 1201 Tremont, Galveston, Texas. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009, with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m.

Ernest was born November 17, 1940, in Galveston, Texas to Santos S. Gonzales, Sr. and Rose Canales Gonzales. He attended Ball High School and was a member of the catholic faith. He was a retired boilermaker and certified welder.

Preceded in death by his father and mother, his brothers, Santos Jr., Larry and Valentino Gonzales, sisters, Adele Vela and Sally Ledesma, he is survived by his wife Cecilia Ann Gonzales; sons Ernest W. Gonzales, Jr., Mark A. Gonzales, Christopher T. Gonzales, Robert J. Gonzales, Jimmy Fennell, Johnny R. Fennell, Richard V. Flores, Jr., and David M. Flores; daughters Cynthia L. Smith, Shirley A. Blanks and Karen E. Villanueva; sisters Mary Vela, Rosie Bennett, Gloria Gonzales and Patricia Gonzales; twenty-seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.

Pallbearers are his sons. Honorary Pallbearers are his grandsons Daniel D. Smith, Ernest W. Gonzales, III, Mark A. Gonzales, II, and nephews Moses Medina, Jr. and John E. Bennett.
