Arlene Larson, 89, of Manitowoc, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at the Manitowoc Health Care Center.

Arlene Hacker Larson was born on September 24, 1919, in the town of Newton, daughter of the late Ernest and Olga Berge Hacker.

She attended grade school in Newton, Woodrow Wilson Jr. High School, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938.

On September 6, 1941, she married Verlin Allen Larson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Manitowoc where she was baptized and confirmed. He preceded her in death in November of 1988.

During World War II, Arlene worked for Mirro Aluminum in Manitowoc.

In 1952, she and her family moved to Valders, where she resided for 43 years.

She worked at Leverenz Shoe Company, and later became a nurses aide for the Manitowoc Health Care Center, where she was employed for eighteen years.

Arlene was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Valders, Faith Lutheran Church Women, a Sunday school teacher, and was an active member of the volunteers for quilting.

In 1995, she moved back to Manitowoc.

Arlene is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David and Sue Larson, Green Bay; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Allen Novak, Plymouth; four grandchildren, Victoria Larson, Chicago, David Wade (Chrissy) Larson, Antioch, IL, Amy (Steve) Novak Heindl, Green Bay, Ryan (Kasia) Novak, Madison; three great-grandchildren, Avery and Nora Larson, Hunter Novak; one sister-in-law, Anita Hacker, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Verlin; her parents; and two brothers, Elton and Arthur.
