Myrtle Phoebe Sutter Stoltzfus was born November 23, 1926 in Milford, Nebraska the daughter of Daniel and Magdalena (Roth) Sutter. On October 19, 1947 she was united in marriage to Sterling Stoltzfus in Milford, Nebraska. They made there home in Iowa where they farmed for 10 years, then owned and operated Sterling's Feed and Seed in Williamsburg for 17 years. In 1974, they moved to Ohio where they owned and operated Phil's Flowers and Fruit for 15 years. Myrtle was the bookkeeper for their businesses. They retired and moved to Kalona in 1990. She was active in the Mennonite churches, where she taught children's Sunday School classes and served as a sponsor for the youth group. She was currently a member of the Kalona Mennonite Church. She enjoyed quilting, flower gardens and entertaining. Myrtle died on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a short illness at the age of 82 years. Myrtle is survived by 5 children - Ruth (James) Boller of Kalona; Donna (Larry) Wyse of Archbold, OH; Jane (Jim) King of Archbold, OH; Philip (Cherilee) Stoltzfus of Inola, OK; Barb (Gary) Garber of New Paris, IN; 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandhildren; and a sister - Dorothy Yoder of Wellman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in April 2008; 2 sisters - Ruth Yoder, Violet Sutter; and 2 brothers - Daniel Sutter and Leland Sutter . Funeral Services were held on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Rev. Scott Swartzendruber officiated. Burial was in the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Mennonite Central Committee.
