A funeral was Monday for Fern Prairie resident Loyd A. Gilman, who died Oct. 1, 1987, at his home. He was 61.

Mr. Gilman was born Feb. 24, 1926, in Stroud, Okla. He lived in the Camas area for the past 39 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines. He was a machine tender for Crown Zellerbach's paper mill in Camas until he retired in 1979.

Mr. Gilman enjoyed gardening, tending his flowers, and taking care of his cattle. He loved to hunt deer before a back injury made that impossible.

Mr. Gilman was survived by his wife, Betty; his sons, Larry Gilman of Washougal, Charles Gilman of Sunnyside, Richard Gilman and Jeff Gilman, both of Camas; his sister, Lela Redick of Salem, Ore.; and his five grandchildren. He was preceded in death in 1980 by his son, Steve.

The funeral service was at Straub's Funeral Home in Camas, with the Rev. Daniel Vaughn officiating. Vault interment followed at the Fern Prairie Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, family members suggested contributions be made to the Fern Prairie Fire District No. 9, P.O. Box 887, Camas 98607.
