Lindsey Blair Cushing, 23, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2009 after a courageous four-year battle with kidney cancer. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Donald Cushing; and maternal grandfather, Robert Keating. She is survived by her parents, Bill and Gale Cushing; older brother, Robert Cushing; her loving boyfriend, Kevin Murnane; maternal grandmother, Mary Lorma Keating; paternal grandmother, Marjorie Cushing; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Lindsey had a zest for life and made every day the best that it could be without dwelling on her cancer. She was diagnosed at the end of her freshman year at the University of South Carolina and, through sheer determination, stayed in school and received her degree in December. She loved the University of South Carolina and was a proud Gamecock. She will be missed tremendously by many and remembered for her wit, her courage, and her positive spirit. Lindsey loved music and traveled to many shows far and wide. She received skillful, loving care from all of the medical professionals she came in contact with, especially Dr. David Trent, Dr. William Babcock, Dr. Gary Bokinski, Dr. Marty Starkman, Natalie Nelson and her loving dialysis nurse, Wanda Thompson. A memorial service will take place Tuesday, March 3 at 3 p.m. at Bon Air United Methodist Church. Private entombment at Hollywood Cemetery will precede the service. The Cushing family has established a scholarship to the University of South Carolina in memory of Lindsey. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made payable to the Business Partnership Foundation, Moore School of Business, 1705 College Street, Columbia, S.C. 29208.
