Missouri D/C #16436
Mrs. Mary Cornelia Vanderford, beloved wife of John A. Vanderford, and one of Brunswick's most highly respected women, passed away Sunday morning, May 5th, at eight o'clock, her death following an illness of several weeks.
Mary Cornelia Woodle was born in Greene County, Wisconsin, June 12th, 1844, and was 73 years, 10 months, and 26 days old. During her girlhood she moved with her parents to Alamogee County, Iowa, where the family lived for a short time. From there they moved to Boliver, Mo., where the subject of this sketch was married at the age of twenty years to Mr. John A. Vanderford, to whom for more than half a century she was a true and devoted companion.
To this union eight children were born, four of whom, Nora, Argus and Lee Vanderford, and one child who died in infancy, preceded the mother in death. The four living children are: L. A. Vanderford and Mrs. D. W. Bates, of Brunswick, MO.; A. M. Vanderford of Lyons, Kansas, and Mrs. Sterling Armstrong of Wishart, Mo. Several years ago Mr. and Mrs. Vanderford moved to Brunswick, and have made their home here since that time.
When a young girl Mrs. Vanderford united with the Baptist Church at Madison, Wisconsin, but after her marriage she united with the Christian church at Bolivar, MO. shortly after coming to Brunswick she joined the Christian church here and remained one of its most faithful members to the day of her death. She was devoted to her church, and was a regular attendant upon its services when her health permitted. In her home she devoted herself tenderly to her family, and the happy companionship between her and her aged husband often was the subject of comment among friends. Rev. F. R. Gillhan conducted an impressive funeral service at the Christian church at two o'clock Monday afternoon, followed by burial in the Lower Cemetery.
