Most historical records point to birth place as listed above although one census record states NY. Had 4 sons and 3 dtrs by first wife, Abigail Fitzgerald. She and her infant died from childbirth complications in Ripley Co., IN on 27 Aug 1857. Abigail died 30 Aug 1857. Early cemetery records showed they were buried at the Old Hogan Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Dearborn Co., IN. along with her father, Joseph Hawkins Fitzgerald, her sister, Matilda Morris and her daughter, Nancy Belle.

Hayden re-married to Mary Ann Weimer Pierson, widow of Salathiel Pierson. He and Hayden helped each other raise the children from their former marriages. They also had Loren and Rpbert, who died in infancy, and Harrison and Nevada Edwards.
