Hon. William Bristol, a leading citizen, died at the family home on Buffalo Street, Warsaw in August of 1909. He was born in Gainesville, May 7, 1821 of pioneer stock. His grandfather, Benjamin Bristol, served in the war for American independence. With a common school education he began a life on the family farm. A man of business ability and integrity he became a man of mark in his town and county. He was one of the founders of the Republican party, a delegate to the historical Nebraska convention held at Saratoga in 1854. He was one of the five from this part of the state to the famous Barburner convention at Syracuse in 1856 which endorsed Fremont. He served as town supervisor, undersherriff, electorial college secreary, 1867-1868 member of the assembly, director of the Rochester & State Line Railroad. He wed Adelia Lockwood on January 12, 1843, their three children survive; Laura E. (Major John Robinson), Belle (M. A. Kuntz), Caroline (Nathan Beardslee). He wed Martha Jewett on January 8, 1857 the three children of this union survive; William, Henry and Millie. The remains were taken to Gainesville for interment.
