OBITUARY - Clair S. Warren
In the early morning of Saturday, Oct. 21, 1922, Mr. Clair S. Warren succumbed to a complication of disease that had kept him as invalid for the last nine years. The funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday at his late home by Rev. Duncan Olmstead, pastor of the Hermitage Baptist church and the remains were laid to rest in the family plot in Maple Grove cemetery at Gainesville.
.
The deceased was the son of George and Mary Warren and was born Dec. 29, 1856 at Walworth, Wayne County, New York. August 20, 1878, he and Miss Ada Cooper were united in marriage and resided for some years in Rochester. About 33 years ago he started a mercantile business in Hermitage with his brother-in-law, the late Mr. Wallace Streeter, and continued the partnership for ten years, at which time his son Frank became a partner and the firm name has since then been C. S. Warren & Son.
.
Besides his devoted helpmate he leaves to mourn his loss one son, Frank, two daughters, Viola Warren and Mrs. Hazel Taylor, also three grand children, Kenneth, Paul and Lawrence and several brothers and sisters.
.
Mr. Warren was widely known in this section. For many years he ran a general merchandise wagon through the roads leading into Hermitage and transacted a considerable volume of business. The high quality of his goods, his strict attention to detail, the regularity of his trips and above all his fairness and honesty in dealing - in other words his business integrity appealed strongly to his customers as it always does when exhibited by any one and assisted in forming for ever his good reputation.
.
The funeral was largely attended by his townspeople and by friends from Wayne County, Avoca, Hilton, Rochester, Shingle House, Pa, Perry, Gainesville and elsewhere.
