Ben's mother married first William Rogers and they had two children, Herbert and William Rogers born in Strykersville, Wyoming Co., NY. After the death of Cornelia's first husband she married 2nd Henry Hotchkiss. Cornelia died in 1872 in Wyoming Co., NY. It is not known whether Cornelia's 2nd husband remarried after her death.
By 1880 Ben Hotchkiss and his older half brother William Rogers, Jr. were living in 1880 Pembina Co., Dak. T. with their Aunt and Uncle Fidelia and Elisha Hedges. Fidelia, and her younger sister Cornelia were two of five children of Benjamin and Cynthia Ward Hicks of Wyoming Co., NY. By 1885 Ben and his brother were living in Pembina Co., as farmers with other Hedges relatives as neighbors.
Ben married "Carrie" Caroline Frances Winch, daughter of William and Hannah Ellen Cox Winch on 21 Dec. 1897 in Nash, Walsh Co., ND. Carrie was born in Mar 1879 in Burr Oak, Winneschiek, IA. She died on 22 Nov. 1969 in Santa Clara, CA, at age 90 yrs.
Ben and Carrie had a child, Helen Hotchkiss who was born about 1913 in Washington. Helen graduated from Wapato High School, Yakima Co., Washington in 1930.
Shortly after his daughter's graduation from high school, Ben died May 9, 1931 in Wapato. Benjamin was buried in Grafton, Walsh Co., ND.
