Richard E. Beasom, 68, of Hillendale, Holly Oak, formerly of Millerstown, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, of asbestosis at Riverside Extended Care Facility.

Mr. Beasom was a payroll clerk for Phoenix Steel Corp., Claymont, DE for 31 years until it closed in 1987. Later, he worked for the YMCA of Delaware as a payroll coordinator, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of Tennis Lodge 371, Thompsontown; Lafayette Lodge 14 AF&AM, Wilmington, DE; Scottish Rite Consistory, and the Nur Temple, New Castle, DE where he served as past president of the Ritual unit. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Mary A.; son, Richard L. of Wilmington; brothers, Leonard and Wayne, both of Millerstown; and sisters, Helen Vogel of New Bloomfield and Jean Dum of Elliottsburg.

The funeral service was held March 19 at Gebhart Funeral Home, Claymont. A Masonic service was also performed. Burial was in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Chesapeake City Road, Summit.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holly Oak United Methodist Church.
