Will grew up in Ottawa County, Kansas, the son of a farmer. He attended college at the Kansas State Agricultural School in Manhattan, Kansas and the University of Kansas in Lawrence, graduating in 1907 from the Kansas School of Pharmacy and earning a Degree of Pharmaceutical Chemist. He was a farmer, as well as a druggist at a local drugstore while in Kansas. Sometime between 1925 and 1930 he and Iva sold their farm in Kansas and moved their family to Hiwasse, Arkansas, where they raised broiler chickens and beef cattle.
