Mr. B. R. "Bob" Gates, 74, of 1421 N. University Ave., who was retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 34 years' service, died Wednesday.He was a member of the Arkansas Children's Hospital Horizon Alliance, past member and treasurer of the Pulaski Heights Lions Club and a charter member of the Arkansas Gerontological Society. He held several offices, including state president, of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, was chairman of the State Legislative Committee of the American Association of Retired Persons. He also served three terms on the Governor's Advisory Council on Aging, two terms as consumer representative on the state Board of Dental Examiners and was a member of the Pulaski County Council on Aging.

Survivors are his wife, Golus Wilson Gates; his mother, Mollie Gates of Winnfield, La.; and a brother, C. B. Gates of Shreveport, La.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth by Dr. Rex Horne and Dr. Charles Barfield.

Burial will be in the Pine Crest Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the Central Arkansas Radiation Therapy Institute.
