Born in Belfast, County Down, Ireland the son of William Kennedy and Eliza (Logan) Kennedy, David Gaston Kennedy emigrated to New Harmony, Ohio in 1855 with his mother and several siblings. After nearly four years in Ohio, David, his parents and siblings relocated to homestead land near Raymond, Montgomery County, Illinois. On 28 October 1874 David and Malinda Colvin, daughter of Thomas and Mathilda Colvin, were married in Montgomery County. This union produced four children: Bertha Ethel, Ida May, Effie Lillian and William O. Kennedy. After Malinda's death on 4 May 1882, David remarried to Martha Jane Greene on 28 April 1886. Of this marriage there were three children: Harold Frank, Mary E. and Harvey E. Kennedy. For most of his working career he was involved in retail sales. David passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 21 May 1920 at his doctor's office in Litchfield, Illinois
