Russell Young, 57, a resident of Webster county all of his life, died Sunday morning at Mercy Hospital following a short illness with lockjaw or tetanus.

Mr. Young made his home on a farm five miles south of Duncombe. He was a blacksmith by trade and operated a blacksmith shop on his farm, drawing his trade from surrounding farms. Early last week while shoeing a horse, the animal became fractious and kicked him in the hand. He thought the injury to be a slight one and did not go to a doctor, his wife bandaged and cared for the wound.

On Saturday Mr. Young came into town, apparently in good health. A short time after he retired Saturday night Mrs. Young was aroused by an unusual sound and found her husband rigid from tetanus which had set in. He was brought to Mercy hospital, but the poison had gotten such a hold upon him that nothing could be done to save his life.

Mr. Young was born Oct. 24, 1875, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He was married in 1900 to Miss. Esther Bailey. Nine children were born to them, six of whom survive. They are Mrs. James Trushcheff, of Duncombe; Albert, William, Mrs. George Potter, Mary Elizabeth and Lydia, all living at home. One sister and three bothers also survive. They are Mrs. Frank Osborn, of Bellville, J. E. Young, of Lehigh; William, of Drumright, Oklahoma, and John of California. There are also five grandchildren.

Although Mr. Young followed the trade of horse shoeing it was not his only line of work as in slack times he engaged in well-drilling and selling wood, the three trades giving him a busy life which seemed to be his aim.

Mr. Young was a member of the Christian church having been baptized in the faith at Boone river.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the home. Burial will be made in the Oak Grove Cemetery three miles south of Lehigh. Laufersweiler are in charge.
